Shoreditch High Street

At Shoreditch High Street, Julija led a team of engineers and managed the client interface on a large-scale project in a busy, constrained urban environment. The works involved significant basement excavation adjacent to several sensitive neighbouring properties, construction of a crane base, ground support, shoring, facade retention, and party wall protection measures. Julija initially proposed using a proprietary facade retention system that was readily available and cost-effective, but the client opted against adopting this innovative approach. Coincidentally, after the design and procurement of custom steelwork for facade retention had been completed, local authority requirements forced a change from external to internal facade retention. While some fabricated steel sections were reused, the overall change led to additional costs that could have been avoided with the proprietary system. The project was further complicated by the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, which required Julija to carefully plan and adapt work sequences to comply with strict distancing and safety regulations while maintaining progress on site.
