Angel Wharf, Bermondsey

At Angel Wharf, Bermondsey, Julija was tasked with designing temporary local masonry support while embedded steel beams and columns were prepared for protection works. The original proposal by the permanent engineers involved fully exposing corroded steels within the occupied historic building, then shot blasting and repainting them to extend their lifespan. However, shot blasting is a highly invasive process that generates noise, vibration, and dust, causing significant disruption to residents. Instead, Julija collaborated with the on-site stonemason to develop a less intrusive steel protection methodology, avoiding the need for temporary local masonry supports. This alternative approach reduced costs and minimised disturbance. Julija also conducted multiple structural surveys to ensure the integrity of the solution and provided clear updates to residents throughout the process.
